Critique #2

Submit your Drawing for Feedback

How it works...

We offer feedback on student artwork via "screen cast" videos. A screen cast is a video recording that captures everything happening on a computer screen, with simultaneous audio. When we receive your uploaded file, we'll open it in an application that allows us to point, zoom and even draw on your image while talking through any observations we may have. When the recording is finished, it gets uploaded to "the cloud" and you'll receive a link via email. Just click the link, and you'll be taken directly to your video critique!

What to submit:

The better the image you submit, the more effectively we can evaluate your work. Please photograph your drawing in a well-lit environment, and try to hold the camera as steady as possible. If you have a tripod, consider using that or stabilize your camera against the back of a chair while shooting.

Also, try to shoot at a perpendicular angle to your drawing, meaning at 90º to the surface of the paper. This will eliminate potential "perspective distortions" that could misrepresent your work and make it harder for us to offer meaningful feedback.

Lastly, please ensure that all 4 corners of the page are visible in the photo – don't crop the image inside the edges of the paper. This will help us on our end to further eliminate distortions and improve the accuracy of the image.

Please Note:

While the method of drawing presented here works for drawing anything, we only offer critiques of drawings that use the reference provided in the course. This is because good references for drawing require specific characteristics of focus, exposure and good lighting with a single dominant light source in an identifiable position. Too frequently, student-supplied references don't meet these basic requirements, which makes meaningful feedback all but impossible to offer.

Each student may submit their work for evaluation just once per critique. When the instructor offers suggestions for improvement in Critique #1, incorporate those suggestions for the next critique submission (ie: Critique #2). Please don't resubmit for "follow-up" in the same Critique lesson.

Also, the critiques are intended to provide each student guidance as they develop their drawings, so submit your work for critique as you go, one submission at a time, and wait until you've received your instructor feedback before proceeding with your drawing. This is the best way to improve your work as you go. Please don't upload multiple critique submissions (ie: Critique #1, Critique #2. etc) at the same time.
