ONLINE COURSES
Each of our Online Courses offers comprehensive instruction in a pre-recorded format. Once purchased, course access never expires and isn't tied to a schedule – you can view any course, anytime, at your convenience, for as long as you wish.
Also, because there are no time constraints, demonstrations in our online courses run full length – truly from start to finish. Nothing important is ever left out, no matter how much time it takes. That's why our online courses tend to run quite long, featuring between 10 and 25 hours of video content per course.
You can ask questions in an online course via discussion threads in each lesson and purchase optional one-on-one critiques. We try to respond to all student questions within 48 hours.

LIVE STREAMING CLASSES
Live Streaming Classes are presented in real time and are completely unedited. Designed to mimic as closely as possible the experience of taking an on-ground class in person, Live Streaming Classes are offered on a schedule, each with a specific start date and end date. Every class is comprised of 4 or 8 distinct sessions that meet at a particular time on our website.
Unlike our Online Courses, students enrolled in Live Streaming Classes can interact with the instructor – and each other – in real time during class. Depending on their enrollment level, students can also schedule one-on-one critique appointments with the instructor(s) to receive feedback on their work, so they know what to focus on in the next class session. Each class also features a dedicated discussion forum where students can share their progress and ask questions between live sessions.
We recognize that some students may occasionally be unable to attend class at the designated time. For this reason, a recording of the previous class session will remain available for one week after broadcast. These recordings are removed each week, however, and once the the class has concluded, all its content is deleted before the next one begins.

Think of it this way...
If you're still unsure of the difference between Online Courses and Live Streaming Classes, imagine the difference between a musician's studio recording and a live performance. The recording offers a "definitive" version of the music – multiple takes are recorded to capture just the right variation, which is then mixed and edited with care to create the "perfect" track. What the recording lacks in immediacy and spontaneity, it makes up for in refinement. It's also yours to keep – once you purchase a recording, you own it.
The live performance is just the opposite – there are no do-overs when performing live, and no opportunity to "fix it in post." Instead, musician and audience alike have to accept whatever happens and go with it. The result may be less polished, but is often a more direct, revealing and exciting experience for everyone. It's also temporary – once a live performance is over, it's over.
That's how we think of the difference between Online Courses and Live Streaming Classes at Vitruvian. One is more polished, complete, and enduring. The other is more spontaneous, interactive, and ever-changing. We think they're both excellent – and complimentary – ways to learn.
