“Cassandra Looking Aside” – A New Portrait Drawing Video on YouTube
Once again, it's been too long since I published a new time-lapse drawing video on YouTube, so consider this a back payment.
This is Cassandra. She's a model here in Chicago, and was generous enough with her time to come sit for us a few months back. This was during the height of the pandemic, so we were a little hesitant to have anyone in the studio, but we were also desperate to work with a model again, so we masked-up and took our chances. In retrospect, I'm really glad we did! Nobody got sick, we got to spend a good amount of time with her, and she let us take some photo references for future use.
I love this pose, mainly for that beautiful neck of hers. It was fun digging-in to some of the smaller, more subtle surface forms, while keeping them in balance with the larger anatomical forms of the sternocleidomastoid muscle on each side, and the throat in between.
In fact, I like this image so much, I'm considering doing another version in color, perhaps in paint or pastel... But that will be for a different video.
I hope you enjoy it!
Whew. Superb.
So instructive.
Thank you.
